Have you ever had someone challenge you regarding the price of your services or tell you that you should not charge for a particular service that they need?

A lot of us have encountered this.  These bargain hunters may not understand that you worked tirelessly to obtain your skill set, which allows you to provide and/or create wonderfully solid services and products.

Whether you experience this with a counseling client or with colleagues that you provide a service to, it can be pretty frustrating.  Sometimes it can even cause you to question whether or not you are being fair in your pricing.

Don’t worry, over the years I have experienced this too!

Let me give you a few pointers on How to Handle People Saying Your Price is WRONG.”

1. Know where you will be philanthropic for the year and where you will not.

“Give and it shall be given unto you.” We should all help one another out and we all have certain causes or people we will feel compelled to do this with.  If you are clear on where you are giving back, you can feel more comfortable when it is time to stand firm with areas that are not your “give back” focus for this season of your life. You don’t have to be Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, or Oprah Winfrey to give back.  Every effort has the potential to make great change.

I feel quite comfortable with the pricing I have for all of my services and products.  I can stand firm on these prices because I know where I give back and where I do not for each year.

2Know the value that your service provides.

Knowing this will help you feel more confident that you have priced your services and products according to what is fair, given what one will receive.  Do you know how to communicate the value that your services provide?  I mean do you really know how your products and/or services can create change in the life and/or business of your clients?

If you don’t know the answer, start working to figure it out now!!

3. Understand you will not be for everyone and that’s okay.

Do you know why ice-cream comes in a QUADRILLION different flavors?  Yup, you guessed it!  It’s because everyone prefers something different and that is okay.  There are some who love Strawberry ice cream and some who only deal with Chocolate.  Others will want to switch it up, going with Vanilla one day and Butter Pecan the next.  Variety is wonderful!

You have a particular flavor yourself and it will attract some and not others.  Don’t worry about trying to catch everyone.  Just catch the ones that are right for you and what you have to offer.

4. Make sure you have some items that are the RIGHT price.

Even if they are bargain hunting today, it doesn’t mean they will always be bargain hunting.  Direct them to your free pamphlet or e-book, website page with more info, blog, or other resource that gives them a sample of the information they seek.

I recently explained to someone why one of my services was not offered for free but then I let them know about the products that were free.  I let them know about my blog and the e-book on my website.  I also let them know they could send in questions, that can be answered within 5 minutes, and I could help and possibly show it on my YouTube series or in a newsletter. This option worked well for them while they saved for the service they wanted to purchase.
